Fees are the question people most often want answered before they pick up the phone, and the one most practice websites avoid. Here is the plain version.
Every practitioner at OneBodyMind runs their own independent practice and sets their own fees. For a standard consultation of about 50 minutes, fees currently sit between $260 and $290 before any rebate. Your practitioner's exact fee is confirmed when you book, and it does not change without notice.
The variation reflects experience and area of practice rather than anything about the quality of the work. A first appointment runs the same length, and costs the same, as the ones that follow. If you would like a longer appointment, ask when you book and it will be arranged and quoted.
Assessments, reports and any work prepared for a third party — a court, an insurer, an employer — are quoted separately, because they take a different amount of time and are not billed by the session. The same is true of longer appointments and couple or family sessions.
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare pays a rebate on each session and you pay the difference. Rebates for these services currently run from roughly $90 to $150 a session depending on your practitioner's registration category. The larger rebates attach to the higher fees, so the two largely move together and the gap is narrower than those two ranges on their own would suggest: in practice most people are between about $130 and $170 out of pocket a session.
We confirm the exact rebate that applies to your practitioner when you book, so you know the real number before your first appointment rather than after it. Rebate amounts are set by Medicare and change on 1 July each year; the current figures are published by Services Australia. Figures on this page are current at September 2026.
You do not need a referral or a plan to see anyone here. It only affects whether a rebate applies. Plenty of people attend without one.
Payment is taken at the time of your appointment by card, and we lodge the Medicare claim for you — you never have to submit anything yourself or visit a Medicare office.
If you are seen in person while reception is open, the claim goes through our terminal while you are still at the desk and the rebate is back in your account immediately, credited to the account linked to the card you paid with.
For appointments after 5pm and for telehealth, we send a payment link instead of taking the card in person, and lodge the claim online once the payment comes through. The rebate is then paid into the bank account you have registered with Medicare, and it arrives within 24 business hours rather than on the spot. That timing is the one practical difference between being seen during reception hours and outside them — you get the same rebate either way.
Each practitioner sets their own terms for appointments cancelled at short notice, and will explain them to you at the outset. If money is a barrier to getting started, say so when you call — it is a more common conversation than people imagine, and there are usually options.
Some private health funds cover psychology under their extras cover. You cannot claim from both Medicare and your health fund for the same appointment, so it is worth checking which leaves you better off — for most people with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare does.
There are other pathways that cover therapy in full or in part: workers compensation through ReturnToWorkSA, compulsory third party insurance after a motor accident, NDIS plans, Department of Veterans' Affairs arrangements, and employee assistance programs through your workplace. Not every practitioner takes every scheme. Tell us which one applies when you call and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

No. Practitioners here charge a fee and Medicare pays a rebate towards it, so there is a gap to pay. If cost is the obstacle, raise it when you call rather than not booking.

If your extras cover includes psychology, yes — but not for the same session you claim from Medicare. With a treatment plan in place, Medicare is usually the better of the two.
